‘Twas morning and the tired students
Did grumble and garble in the halls:
All anxious were the freshmen
And the upperclassmen did sigh.

“Beware the Midterms, my student!
The questions that bite, the problems that catch!
Beware the Essay questions, and shun
The dangerous Fill-in-the-blanks!”

And, as in deep thought he stood,
The Midterms, with eyes of flame,
Came tumbling through the tired school,
And growled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The sharp pencil went scribble-scratch!
He left It dead, and with its head
He went strutting back

“And, has thou slain the exams?
Come to my arms, my triumphant student!
O glorious day! Hallelujah! Horray!”
He chortled in his joy.
“Twas morning, and the tired students
Did grumble and garble in the halls;
All anxious were the freshmen
And the upperclassmen did sigh.
